SMART-WAY

Work Package 6: Effect analysis and verification of the business model

Objectives

  • Establish business model
  • Address the extent of the SMART-WAY impact on performance of urban public transport systems
  • Study the SMART-WAY system under different scenarios from the perspective of transport operators
  • Verify alternative business models for introducing and operating SMART-WAY systems based on the quantitative simulation model
  • Develop exploitation plan which documents business potential and strategies based on quantitative simulation studies

Effect Modelling, Determination of KPI, Exploitation Plan

  • Provide conceptual and formal basis for studying urban public transport systems equipped with the SMART-WAY navigation systems by means of simulation
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration of experts in transportation and simulation by the group of contributing partners
  • Conceptualization of SMART-WAY effects on passengers and operators
  • Produce formal quantitative model on the basis of a thorough business and market analysis, marketing segmentation, driving forces, economic viability, market potential and competition analysis
  • Research key performance indicators (KPI) for the public transport network (PTN)
  • Assess impact of SMART-WAY system on PTN performance
  • Research passenger behaviour

Verification and Adjustment of Business Models for SMART-WAY

  • Basic calculation of cost and additional income for operators offering SMART-WAY services to passengers
  • Obtain verified business model for introducing and operating the SMART-WAY system in urban public transport
  • Derive results regarding how GALILEO-based applications can be successfully operated in public transport
  • Obtain data concerning trip time, traffic information, and conflict-avoidance
  • Study effects on the business model for transport operators by simulation
  • Locate scenarios which make SMART-WAY commercially successful
  • Validate the model by rough spreadsheet calculations to ensure that the outcome is adequate
  • Focus on financial impact that the system has on operator(s) under different scenarios and how it evolves
  • Report results of the different scenarios and compile in a study of The SMART-WAY approach on urban public transport network performance and business key performance indicators
  • Provide a verified business plan for the introduction and operation of the SMARTWAY system by transport operators
