SMART-WAY

Work Package 4: Implementation and Laboratory Tests

Objectives

  • Develop early low-level functional prototype
  • Implementation of GNSS services for mobile devices
  • Converge map network, passenger position and vehicle position
  • Implementation of all interfaces to transport operators and IT-services
  • Establish platform with mobile navigation applications and user interface
  • Implementation of essential background applications
  • Continuous simulations and laboratory tests of all components
  • Review existing real-time data systems

Implementation of all Necessary Navigational Services

  • Transform research results regarding meta study navigational processes, navigation scenarios and other deliverables from WP 2 and 3 into software algorithms and navigational applications
  • Positioning methodologies will be implemented as software for mobile devices and background server applications
  • Algorithms will be implemented with these methodologies offering application programming interfaces (API’s)
  • Implementation of background services which allow mobile devices to request information concerning vehicles, communication with GIS as well as other systems involving the transport company.
  • Creation of interface between mobile and server applications based on documented API

Implementation of Mobile Applications for Selected Devices

  • Implementation of mobile navigation applications and user interfaces for creation of a concrete platform
  • JAVA-based application will allow a functional low-level prototype
  • JAVA version will assist in identifying needs of passengers at different levels
  • User feedback will then result in a renewed version of the application
  • Concrete installations and trials of the prototype will facilitate decisions regarding a platform, which will then be used for implementation
  • Concrete platform will be chosen upon project completion due to the rapidly evolving market

Implementation of the Terminal Application of the Transport Operator

  • Essential creation of a management application for state surveillance and operations control
  • Application will operate simultaneously throughout different locations
  • Inclusion of separate accounts for administration and general users which gives transport companies control
  • Necessary interfaces to existing transport operators and IT service providers
  • The application will provide the following features:
    • view operational status of all components
    • activate different levels of navigation
    • inform users of their navigational rights
    • enter traffic information manually
    • transfer external events into the navigational background system
    • support several languages
    • provide multipurpose support on local and remote locations regarding the internet
    • maintain all navigational applications

Laboratory and User-Based Tests of All Components

  • Implementation and testing of software components for user navigational systems
  • Reproducible scenarios
  • Field tests must be validated and analysed in laboratory to ensure practical solutions
  • Use of pre-existent real-time data timetable systems
  • Decision of final platform will be made based on the early prototype and results from WP2
