SMART-WAY

Work Package 2: Studies

Objectives

  • Identification, analysis and categorization of existing research and study
  • Establish a meta study for GALILEO-based navigation systems designed for mobile devices
  • Perform new studies when little information is available to guarantee overall project performance

General Conditions and User Needs

  • Focus on identification of main needs and barriers for GALILEO-based applications
  • Two main issues: obtaining information concerning public transport user needs and technological preferences, and the use of these devices by transport companies.

These focus groups are designed to have the scope to formulate a common method to monitor and assess effects on transport behaviour. The focus groups will be treated as experimental targets to test the variables individuated through the multivariate analysis on the common data set, as well as to design a questionnaire which highlights the focus of this task for future investigation and monitoring. Participants in the first group will range from 8-10 individuals per group and will proportionately represent the demographics. Participants in the second group will be selected from more prominent transport operators, due to the involvement of GTT and DVK and their activation in the network. In summary, SMART-WAY will establish two randomly selected focus groups to take place in Torino and Dresden. The results from the focus groups should assist in orienting the design of the application based on 'common user' needs. Conversely, to ensure a strong focus group design, identification of institutional, organizational, financial, legal and technical enablers and barriers, is needed for implementation of GNSS services.
Facilitated by VTI, this task will involve both the implementation of services, as well as their transferability across regional and national boarders.

Meta Study of GALILEO-based Applications on Mobile Devices
